Alright guys, Its time for my VERY first fitness update…..
This life style change is really hard. For some reason I sorta thought it would be easier but I quickly realized this will take some time haha. Something I keep telling myself is that …..
“A little progress each day adds up to big results”
Over this past week, I went and signed up at the gym. On Tuesday April 10th I’ll actually go and get a health assessment done with Youfit. That is where I’ll go in and get weighed, measured, and be able to share with a trainer my fitness goals. They will then give me workout routines that would work for me and my specific goals I want to reach. FYI when you go in and sign up with Youfit, they offer this HOUR free assessment. I highly recommend you take advantage of this because they really give you a clean slate to start from. Ill share more info in my next update with what I learn from my assessment. Wish me luck!!!
Also EVERYBODY knows how much I love drinking coke. However today marks 6 days free of ALL SODA!!! I am so proud of myself for making it this far without any soda. I know there will be days I will eventually drink “Ginger Ale” due to my stomach problems because that helps me a lot with my nausea but other than that I won’t be drinking soda like I was. I have had a little bit of a headache the past couple days but nothing crazy. And oh I have felt SO fatigue!! I think that is because my body is trying to adapt to this new healthy change.
I have been drinking at least 2 liters of water a day! I’ve been getting the Fiji water. I made a goal for myself to finish at least one of these bottles before I leave work everyday which is normally around 4:30/5. Whenever I do finish one, I instantly refill it and then I will push myself to finish THAT bottle before I go to bed. Over the days of doing this, It has become easier to finish my first bottle way before its time to leave. I remember on the first day telling my coworker I feel like I’m going to explode because of how much water I’ve been drinking. He said my body would get use to it. I didn’t believe him. But hey guess what?! Like day three it became easier. He was right!
On days I was really wanting something to quench my thirst, I picked up this sparkling ICE water. I’m going to be honest with you. I’ve barely had ONE and it is WAY too sweet for me, and also the carbonation is too much. So really its hard for me to finish, but its a GREAT go-to if you want something to quench that thirst!
Years ago, I cut chicken from my diet to see if it would help my digestion problems. It did and I noticed a ton of differences. I lasted about a month because lets face it, Who could stay away from Chick-Fil-A? I was currently only eating Chicken and Fish because over 10 years ago I had cut red meat and all other meats out of my diet because my stomach could simply NOT digest it. I’ve always been a fan of sea food, but to take chicken away just seemed to be too much. However back in January of 2018, I decided to take chicken away again and see if I would of receive the same results. And I DID! So I haven’t had chicken since January and I only miss it because of Chick-Fil-A haha. So with that I wanted to find something I could take in my lunches that would be healthier. I can’t eat a lot of food at once because of my Gastroparesis so I needed to find something small and quick to grab because I like my food convenient hahaha! One day when I was shopping at Publix, I came across these tuna packs. Now I’ve never been a fan of tuna, but the “Sun Dried Tomato & Basil” caught my eye. So I grabbed one and was prepared to hate it. NOPE, I was quickly addicted. So I went back and grabbed the other 2 flavors and quickly fell in love. I know people say I wouldn’t get enough protein because I’m not eating chicken, But with eating these tuna packs I’m getting protein from other resources like beans. So go and find these, I PROMISE you wont be disappointed!
So I did go out and get a few things for home incase I couldn’t make it to the gym one day. I was able to find the Yoga Mat and Dumbbells at my local Walmart and they weren’t expensive at all. I found the Jump Rope at Target. ( Gotta love Target!) These things are so simple to get, inexpensive and great to use at home to work out if you are unable to make it to the gym. You can look up fitness videos on YouTube, magazines, and even buy some on DVD if you can. The gym isn’t always for everyone. For me I feel like it makes me feel more accountable and when I am there, there is NO excuses to why I cant work out. Sometimes at home I can get distracted and not do a work out. But at the gym there is no reason why I can’t. It is also nice to be able to go with somebody who can push you when you want to quit. I’m lucky enough to be able to go with my Brother In Law. Over this past week, I only went to the gym once. Ill be honest. But when I went my Brother In Law was so patient with me as we worked out and he showed me how to do certain things on the machines. He also pushed me and at times when I didn’t think I could do it, he encouraged me and well didn’t let me give him ANY excuses. We got the job done, and I’m super excited to go back tomorrow! Even though I only went once this past week, I did go on a couple walks in my neighborhood. And my Cousin and I are doing a 21 day planking challenge! Ill post details about that on my FB page!
I also went out and bought new work out clothes. Many things were not fitting right and also I get more excited to work out with getting a new outfit! You can go anywhere for decent priced work out clothes but I went to Target and picked up these items. I needed new work out pants and because I am so short and I do have some curves these fit perfectly! Also while looking in the mirror, I didn’t feel self-conscious. I felt comfortable and ready to get out there. That is so important when you are getting clothes to work out in. Get whatever makes you feel good!
Things I’ve learned this week:
- If getting a new outfit inspires you to get out there and exercise, Spend that extra money and go get one!
- If you are a grazer like me, (someone who always snacks) Make sure you have plenty of healthy snack options. Like I mentioned before, I like my food convenient. That is just how my brain works. So I wanted to be able to just quickly grab my snack. I have had to pay extra for the convenience, but it works for ME if that makes sense. So if you can, spend extra if that works for YOU. Your body will thank you for that. ( I will also be making a separate post on healthy snacks)
- Create a “Work out Playlist” I personally have Spotify. All of my music is divided into categorizes or moods. (Yes I’m weird, but I LOVE my music). So make a Work out play list to get you pumped when working out. Its so easy to just click on that playlist and get working out!
- Have a good support system. I have my family behind me and a couple friends who continue to encourage me. Also my co-worker! He will make comments at work when he sees me eating my healthy snacks or refiling my water to “keep it up”!
- Also the BIGGEST thing I’ve learned this week, is that this will take time. You wont see a difference over night. But that is ok, just keep going and most importantly to keep your head UP. As I said before….
